One of Connecticut’s largest auditoriums, Welte Hall seats nearly 1,900 people and is used to show movies twice a week and to conduct concerts, productions, shows for guest speakers and other events throughout the year. Music majors will also find their classrooms and practice rooms here in Welte.

The Central Department of Music is dedicated to the development of competent and aesthetically sensitive musicians, intellectually deepened by a broad liberal arts education. We strive to foster in all students life-long connection and involvement with the art of music.
Students in the Department of Music have opportunities to participate in a wide array of chamber ensembles, each coached by our outstanding performance faculty, in areas that include, strings, piano, brass, flute, clarinet, and percussion.
Central offers a few different Acapella groups.
The Department of Music has two choirs—the University Singers, and the University Chorale.
Students of all majors may participate in the concert bands.
Students of all majors may participate in the marching band.
Open to all students who play orchestral stringed instruments with other instruments as needed. Sinfonietta is the required ensemble for music majors who play orchestral stringed instruments.
Students of all majors may participate in the pep band.
